What is a lab-grown diamond?
A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond – chemically, physically and optically identical to a mined one. The only difference is its origin: instead of forming underground over billions of years, it crystallises in a laboratory in a few weeks under precisely controlled conditions. Gemological institutes such as IGI and GIA certify lab-grown diamonds using the same 4C criteria (carat, colour, clarity, cut) as natural stones.
How are lab-grown diamonds made?
Two technologies dominate. HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) replicates the conditions deep inside the Earth. CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition) grows the diamond layer by layer from carbon plasma.
