Valenza's jewellery history begins around 1840, when goldsmith Vincenzo Morosetti opened the town's first workshop. What followed was unusual: instead of one famous house, Valenza grew a system — hundreds of small ateliers, each specialised, each feeding skills to the others. Setters, polishers, engravers, wax carvers: whole families passing benches from generation to generation.
By the twentieth century the town had become the quiet engine of European high jewellery. Today roughly a thousand workshops operate there, and the great maisons — the names on the world's most famous shopping streets — manufacture significant parts of their collections in Valenza's ateliers. The label says Paris or New York; the hands are very often Valenzan.
What "made in Valenza" means at the bench
Industrial jewellery is cast, machine-finished and quality-checked by sampling. Valenza works differently. A piece passes through individual specialists: the goldsmith who builds the mount, the setter who places each stone by hand under magnification, the polisher who finishes surfaces a machine cannot reach. Each discipline is a career, not a station on a line.
